Mit dem "Wild and Scenic Rivers Act" wurde 1968 in den USA ein Gesetz erlassen, mit dem wertvolle Flüsse geschützt werden und somit nicht der Wasserkraft oder anderen Einflüssen zum Opfer fallen. Anlässlich des 50-jährigen Bestehen wurde ein wirklich gelungener Film gedreht, der die Geschichte des Gesetzes sowie allerhand davon betroffener Flüsse in sehr schönen Bildern vermittelt. Vielleicht ist etwas Ähnliches auch in anderen Teilen der Welt irgendwann einmal Realität, lieber früher...

I know it´s been a while since the last post, and I´m sorry about it. The thing is - we are all stuck in our exams again at the moment, and therefore have hardly any freetime left for posting pictures and stuff. At least I think that we are probably even more sorry for this fact than you are, but that´s how life as a student can be at times...

One can't start early enough in teaching the youth about conservation and nature in general. Our youth group operates a small stream in Munich and two days ago we restored the river at some places.

I think there’s no flyfisher man or women in the world who walks blindly over a bridge, not observing the river that flows beneath. „Fish, fish, fish! Where are the fish?!“ is a pretty normal description of whats normally going on. But a river doesn't only hold fish…it is a huge ecosystem for every species that needs water either to survive or to drink, well thats probably the same but I hope you get the point. Which river in Germany isn't restored? In the states, artificial dams like the Elwha Dam in Washington already get destroyed to let fish like Salmon and Steelhead continue there spawning run. Many dams are or were used to generate hydroelectric power but totally destroy the aquatic ecosystem of the river. Current velocity, oxygen content and many other factors get changed completely and fish like trout, (danubian) salmon, steelhead and many more aren't able to live there because of poor...
