When you are spending the weekend learning for the exams it's not unfamiliar to let the mind wander. This simultaneously brought Lukas and me to the idea of flycasting outside. So we grabbed the Scott Radian, that I always carry with me and some flylines, we wanted to try out. Most of them are gifts from older fishermen, and I'm always thankful for a new line I can try out. Some of them are really bad, like these never-used-25 dollar-own-brand-flylines but here and there are some that are good...

Sorting flies in a cafe in Munich. Flyfishing Danica Dudes Angeln Fliegenfischen
Last weekend, the Youth-group of our fishery club had his own christmas party. My brother and I organized the draw, so it was our job to pack the bags of (fly)fishing tackle, that could be won by our youngsters. On sunday morning, after we just had picked up the last goodies from a friend, we sat down in a bakery and organized the flies, leaders and fly boxes. It was just that time of day where everyone was wearily about to drink his first coffee of the day, and then wondering what these guys...

Winter flyfishing at the Isar river, Munich. Danica Dudes fliegenfischen, angeln
Frozen guides, numb fingers and the end of the dryfly-season are the troubles winter brings to us flyfishermen. But nevertheless, we jump in our waders and throw streamers, that are way to heavy in the deepest pools of the river. When the trout season comes to an end, it is the "Hucho" (or Danubian Salmon) we want to catch. And that's anything but easy, believe me... The population of the Hucho in the Isar river is actually pretty good, that's why you see a lot of snowman standing in the river...

Fishing small streams is simply an awesome experience. Usually you have to wade carefully to not spook any fish, and casting can be pretty tricky since bushes and trees usually try their best to put a branch or two into your line path. Trick casting is essential here, and without a solid roll cast you probably won´t have a lot of fun. Although the fish do not grow as big in small water than they would in bigger rivers you still can stumble upon a nice hog here and there, but usually you are...

A weir in Oberföhring, Munich, Germany. Danica Dudes flyfishing and fliegenfischen, München
"Hey, what can one catch here?" "Hey, have you caught anything yet?" "Hey, do I need a license to fish here?" ...are the questions, we are mostly confronted with, when fishing here in Munich. I'm not sure if it's a blessing or not, to be able to fish directly in the city, because this has two sides. On the one hand, we anglers should teach the ones who don't know anything about how fishing works. "Yes, of course you need a license and then have to join a club and get the permit for the water...

Just wanted to share some pics of one of the most beautiful places I´ve ever been to, the Cevennes in France. Great people, fantastic landscape, stunning waters and tricky fishing - what more can you wish for? ;)

A brown trout, caught while fly fishing a secret river in Norway. Danica Dudes Fliegenfischen, Angeln
The next stop of our trip was the river -censored- near Alvdal. And boy, that river was nice! It seemed to change every 200 m or so, from fast wild water to slow, deep pools. The water was absolutley clear which provided some fantastic sight fishing opportunities. The fishing was very different to what we were used from Rena. Finding fish that were steady rising was very hard since we had hardly any good hatches, due to the sunny weather throughout the whole week Nevertheless we managed it to...

The Isar river in Munich, Germany. Danica Dudes Flyfishing, Fliegenfischen, Angeln, Natur
Which river in Germany isn't restored? In the states, artificial dams like the Elwha Dam in Washington already get destroyed to let fish like Salmon and Steelhead continue there spawning run. Many dams are or were used to generate hydroelectric power but totally destroy the aquatic ecosystem of the river. Current velocity, oxygen content and many other factors get changed completely and fish like trout, (danubian) salmon, steelhead and many more aren't able to live there because of poor...

The Rena river in Hedmark, Norway. Flyfishing with the Danica Dudes. Angeln und Fliegenfischen an der Rena in Norwegen.
For those who are familiar with the Hedmark region in Norway, there’s nothing more to say about the Rena River than the name itself, just because it is absolutely amazing! Okay, the river itself might not look very spectacular and its location between two barrier lakes might also not be very romantic but what counts is that it has the biggest number of (different) insects in Europe! And that truly makes it to an Eldorado for any dry-or-die flyfisherman and -woman and of course any Danica...

Our first camp in Sweden, flyfishing trip Danica Dudes | Angeln, Fliegenfischen in Schweden auf dem Weg nach Norwegen
Do you know the feeling when you´re getting off a ferry, have a pretty long drive in front of you and a night with hardly any sleep behind you? Well, when we first put our foot on swedish ground we just thought “Shiiit, we need some seriously dose of sleep!“. But nada, Norway was still few hundred kilometres away which cannot be couvered when chillin´at the beach. So four Bavarians made their way up north , along the western swedish coastline. After a couple of hours driving we decided to...
